I had a meeting yesterday with the two most senior partners of a prominent regional law firm, discussing a potential joint venture whereby we provide them with enquiries and leads and they do the legal bits. I left the meeting with that parable at the back of my mind about not mixing ‘new wine with old wine skins’...

I recently read Jeff Jarvis’s book ‘What Would Google Do?’ It is a must read for lawyers in the 21st century as it deals with the reasons and need for the transition from the old way of doing things to the new way. So if Google started a law firm, how would they go about it?

I feel fortunate to have what I would describe as ‘front row seats’ at what is set to be the biggest shake-up of legal services in history. This is because I meet with senior partners of BIG law firms regularly and also the mavericks and innovators who some of the BIG guys ignore at their peril...
