The main rates differ with age ranges, and there are exceptions for schemes like apprenticeships and internships which are classed separately under employment law.
The rates as they stand are:
As of 1 October 2011, apprentices were put at a minimum hourly rate of £2.60 when 19 years or under, or in the first year of their apprenticeship. On the same day that this rule was introduced, the age at which you were eligible for the main National Minimum Wage was reduced from 22 to 21.
