Finding the Right Solicitor
We recommend using our free Find a Solicitor service but if you want to find your own solicitor, these are some things to consider:
Find the right area of law
Make sure you find out the right area of law your case is in before starting on a solicitor search, as this will be a large factor as to whether a firm will be able to help you or not.
Solicitors are very particular about what area of law they will cover, and if your case is not in an area they cover then they will not be able to help, so before contacting anybody you need to ensure they are the right people for the job, and to do this you need to categorise your case.
If you are not sure on how to do this then check our quick step guide on page ‘What type of Lawyer do I need for my case?’
Find the right location to base your claim in
You need to ensure that your lawyer is local, or happy to work at the location set; so search within your place of residence/business, and state your location early upon instruction once you have used the solicitor’s directory to find your legal professional.
Look at their website/search for online reviews of service
We always recommend researching a service before making any quick decisions — whilst we strive to offer only the best available, it might be that given the choice there is a service more appropriate out of those offered through the directory search.
To make sure you get a solicitor firm with the best reputation for your area, do a quick review search to check all the feedback is positive.
Phone them and discuss your case
If you are happy with your selection and are sure that you have picked the right solicitor firm for your case, then phone them and get started – but first make sure that you have all your related documents ready, ensuring that you can be as quick and to the point as possible, and prepared for any questions they may have for you regarding your case.
