Employee Letter Requesting Statutory Adoption Leave

If you’re adopting a child, it’s important that you are able to spend time with them after the adoption and help them settle in with their new family. Fortunately, the law recognises this, and it’s for this reason that, following an adoption, it’s likely you’ll be entitled to adoption leave from your employer.

You can use this free form letter to submit a request for Statutory Adoption Leave from your employer. If you have been matched with a child by a UK adoption agency when you have been working for your employer for at least 26 weeks, you are entitled to 52 weeks of statutory adoption leave. You must inform your employer no more than 7 days after the notification from the adoption agency that you have been matched with a child.

This letter template is completely free to download and you don’t need any legal know-how to fill it out – just enter the relevant details in place of the red placeholder text, and send it to the relevant individual or department at your place of work.
