COP7 Application to object to the registration of a lasting power of attorney

People who are concerned that at some future point they may lose mental capacity and be unable to manage their affairs  can make provision for this eventuality by creating a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). This document allows the person making it (called the donor) to appoint people who will act on his behalf (called attorneys) if he loses the capacity to make decisions for himself.

The attorneys cannot act under an LPA until it is registered with the Office of the Public Guardian. If the attorneys attempt to register the LPA and the donor or someone else named in the LPA objects to this, they ask the Court of Protection to block the registration by completing and filing this form. There are a number of circumstances in which the donor or his representatives may wish to block registration, for example where he still has the capacity to manage his affairs and his attorneys are acting in their own interests by seeking registration.

A different form (COP8) should be used for applications to the Court which relate to an Enduring Power of Attorney, rather than the newer Lasting Power of Attorney.
