PPI Ombudsman

Financial ombudsman reports rise in PPI complaints

For many years banks and lenders have sold PPI (payment protection insurance) on a wide range of financial products. The financial ombudsman service deals with complaints about banks and financial institutions, they have recently revealed that over 60% of these complaints surround the sale of PPI.

It is not surprising then that thousands of UK consumers are now looking to reclaim mis-sold PPI.

You may have been encouraged by a lender or broker to add PPI onto your account as protection if you are unable to work due to accident, sickness or unemployment. What they are unlikely to advise is that PPI has been found to offer little protection to the majority or consumers and banks will often refuse to honor the cover if you do suffer a loss of income.

The ombudsman service has warned that banks are still not treating customers fairly and have continued to mis-sell PPI despite heavy fines and much media coverage of their failings.

The ombudsman found that often banks pressurise customers into taking out cover and have even added it to accounts without consumer’s knowledge.

There are thought to be millions of consumers who have been mis-sold PPI and are due compensation. If you have been a victim of mis-sold PPI you may be able to start a PPI claim and get back what you are owed.
