Broken Nose Compensation
Claiming for damage to the nose
Broken noses account for around ⅖ of all facial injuries; they are often not serious and recover rapidly, or at the other end of the scale result in the permanent disfigurement of your visage. Blunt trauma is the normal cause of a nose fracture, the protrusion of the nose from the face making it something of a sitting duck. It is a common sports injury.
Nose classification
A broken nose will swell and often bleed and be very painful. It is sometimes displaced by the break, and only sometimes can it be manipulated to its former position. The nose is made up of a mixture of cartilage and bone and therefore it is not always a fractured bone that is classified as a fractured nose.
Broken nose compensation claims
If you have had your nose broken and it was the fault of someone else, then you may be able to claim personal injury compensation. If you wish to partake of this right, then you should immediately contact a solicitor who will advise you and process your compensation claim.
The compensation, should it be the light at the end of the tunnel that you are hoping for, will be determined in two distinct ways. One accounts for the pain and inconvenience of a broken nose, the other for any economic detriment that you have come to as a result of medical bills, or perhaps if you rely on your facial appearance for your employment and thus are put in a position that harms you ability to earn.
The possible amounts of money that you could receive in compensation for a fractured nose are:
- simple fracture - £1,000 to £1,600 – no displacement, and effective healing
- displaced fracture- £1,600 to £2,000 – manipulation was required to reposition the nose after the break
- fracture requiring surgery - £2,500 to £15,000 – if surgery is required to reconnect the nasal bones, and a small loss of smell or facial disfigurement results
- complete loss of smell - £16,000 to £21,000 – for the subsequent absence of one of your senses you could expect such a figure in monetary compensation.
