Foot Injury Compensation

Claiming for damage to the feet

Our feet are the very things that we stand upon. Without them we would be hoofed and need four legs instead of two. Any damage they incur could therefore be hugely harmful to natural movement.

Foot classification

Though the foot may be thought to comprise not only the foot proper but also the attendant toes and ankle, they both have their own sections and injuries relating to them should be referenced there. The muscles, tendons, bones and skin that are the parts of the whole are all at risk from injury, and they carry varying terms of compensation.

Foot injury compensation claims

If your foot, or feet, have been injured in an accident and you were not to blame, then you may want to claim for compensation. To do this you must employ a solicitor to determine if your claim is valid and to advise on the best course of action. They may also be able, with the help of expert medical testimony, to give you an estimate of what you could expect were to you to be successful.

You can claim for two types of compensation with a foot injury. One relies on the medical report of an orthopaedic or podiatric consultant and will give you damages according to your pain and suffering, and one will look at your financial loss that may have accumulated due to medical fees and the possibility that you were unable to earn for a period.

This is a guide to compensation for foot injuries based on past rulings:

  • simple fracture – maximum of £4,300 – where the bones heal with no further complications
  • serious fractures and damaged tendons and ligaments - £4,300 to £16,000 – fractures, and torn and badly strained tendons and ligaments, which lead to sustained injury that affects walking or deforms the foot
  • fusion of foot joints and broken heels - £16,000 to £43,000 – broken joints in the foot can require a fusion operation, as can broken heels, this leads to deformity and limits to the normal ability of a foot
  • amputation - £53,000 to £129,000 – if the injury is so serious that it requires amputation of part or all of the foot, the ability to walk will be impaired significantly, if not completely.
