Jaw Injury Compensation
Claiming for damage to the jaws
A jaw injury can be very debilitating, restricting the ability to chew and therefore eat food. A jaw injury caused to one person as a result of the actions of another can be the subject of a claim for compensation.
Jaw classification
The lower jaw is known as the mandible. It is the mobile part of the jaw and the only individual bone in the jaw; the upper part is the extremity of the skull. The jaw, as a joint, is also made up of ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Any injury to these or any fracture to the bone structure can cause significant inconvenience.
Jaw injury compensation claims
If you have suffered an injury to the jaw and it was as a result of someone else's actions or non-action where they were required to act for your safety, then you can claim personal injury compensation. You should contact a solicitor if you want to pursue a claim, as they can advise and guide by using their legal expertise.
If your compensation claim is successful then expect the court to award you money dependent on a medical report from an expert that they understand to detail your pain, and also on evidence that indicates the upset the injury has caused to your fiscal status. Any expenditure or loss that is connected to your suffering a jaw injury will be relevant to the compensation award, so medical costs and any employment that it has made you miss can be considered.
The figures, based on the type of injury sustained, that you may receive in damages are as follows:
- simple fracture - £4000 to £5500 – good heal and no ongoing problems
- fracture with complications - £5500 to £19500 – perhaps permanent inconvenience to eating or other complications have arisen
- multiple fractures - £19500 to £30000 – resulting in operations, disability in the jaw, severe pain and possible arthritis.
