Wrist Injury Compensation
Claiming for damage to the wrists
The wrist is the connection between the hand and the arm. It is a finely engineered area containing, as well as the extremities of the arm bones, 8 small bones known as the carpals that contain a series of joints between them.
Wrist classification
As well as the carpals the wrist also contains 2 main ligaments, 2 main tendons, 3 main nerves, 2 main arteries and several muscles. All of these are at risk of injury. The types of injury that can be sustained by the wrist include fractures, strains, and repetitive strains, which can develop into carpal tunnel syndrome.
Compensation claims
A wrist injury received in a road traffic accident, a work situation or a slip or fall that was not your fault could make a good case for a compensation claim. If this applies to you and you wish to make a claim then your first step should be to contact a solicitor and obtain advice.
If your claim is successful the compensation that the court awards you will be of two distinct stripes, one based on a medical report pertaining to your wrist injury and determining damages from the pain you have suffered. The other will seek to elevate you to an economic position that you could have attained had you not injured your wrist, such things as medical expenses and loss of income are covered here.
The following could give you an idea of the amount you may receive in damages if you pursue a wrist injury claim to a successful conclusion:
- minor injury — £2000 to £3000 – fractures and strains that heal rapidly
- Colles’ fracture – £5000 – a break of the radius or ulna bone that results in displacement of the wrist
- severe injury – maximum of £40000 – any type of injury that causes permanent limitations to the wrist.
