Worker Compensation Insurance

What is worker compensation insurance?

Worker compensation insurance compensates you with money accounting for the losses you may have received as a result of an injury you may have suffered at work. As incidents and compensation can vary there may be cases where your employer may have to fork out thousands of pounds which they cannot afford. They would not be able to pay out compensation by themselves, so UK law introduced an insurance policy to pay the compensation. This policy is called 'worker compensation insurance'.

Even if your employer obtains the compensation from an insurance company, you still have to claim against your employer. The insurance company compensates you on your employer's behalf, providing the employer has accepted responsibility. It is more likely the insurance company will certify the claim if you have a professional solicitor start the claim for you.

Your safety is important to everyone. Insurance companies do not like paying out large sums of money, so it puts pressure on your employers to make sure your working environment is as safe as it can be. Making the claim also helps your fellow employees as action will taken after an accident and extra safety precautions will be carried out. Your employer will also learn from their mistakes preventing it from happening again in the future.
