What's on
the site
a full alphabetical rundown
Accidents
& Medical Negligence
This is such an important area of the law
that we have set up a completely separate site called Can
I Claim? Here we can give you lots of useful, free and independent
information about every aspect of pursuing a claim, together with a free online
claim assessment system from specialist personal injury and medical negligence
solicitors.
Ally
McBeal
We love the cookie American show about the
slightly deranged Boston lawyer and the very odd people and clients that she
works with. We review and summarise each episode as it is shown here in the UK.
Like most caricatures it occasionally gets uncomfortably close to the
truth.
DIY
Law
Our section
where you can find all those helpful sites that allow you to do it yourself -
from divorce to change of name, and unfair dismissal claim to getting your money
out of a reluctant payer - if you have the time and the inclination.
Find
a Lawyer
We are very pleased to be able to advise our readers that our new database Legal
Directory is in its test phase - you can try it out here.
Please let us know what you
think of it. We have got together with Consilio
to produce what we hope is a simple to
use, fully searchable directory of solicitors. It will be fully functional very
shortly (just adding a few tweeks and getting rid of a few gremlins). If
you are a law firm and you have a presence on the Web, then
let us know.
In the meantime we've got
over 300 web-friendly solicitors' firms already on the site listed alphabetically,
regionally
or by any one of these specialisms
AND we have over 100
barristers' chambers, with 9 specialist directories, which will lead you to
roughly 3,000 barristers throughout England & Wales.
Foreign
Connections
Looking for help with the law
outside England & Wales and need someone to help, or perhaps you live
outside the UK and need someone who speaks your language to help with a problem
here? We've got details on solicitors who can help in 37 countries around the
World.
Free
Legal Advice & Information
The words "free" and "legal advice" are not often
found within the same sentence, but we can now offer you 5
separate free legal advice and information services
through FreeLawyer; our own panel of specialist personal injury and
medical negligence solicitors; and through our own knowledge of the law and the Web. All you need to do is pick
the one that best suits you. This
includes our new Road Reckoner Service giving guidance on Road Traffic Offence
penalties.
LawGym
We don't often plug other sites quite so directly, but if you
are a small business looking for legal advice online, then LawGym is the place
to start. You can even tell them how much you want to pay for your advice!!
Law
Online
Interested in trying to deal with your legal problem over the web, or just
looking for an online quote for your house sale or purchase, then follow this
link to our Law Online area.
Law
Student
A new area on the site on which
we are currently working, but where we have started to paste some useful bits
and pieces. Law student or just thinking about becoming one then give us your views on what you'd like to see in this
new section.

have found from 3 years on the Web.

you'll find lots of books that can help and may even entertain. Sometimes you
can't beat words on paper - trying taking your laptop in the bath?
Mediation
Because there has to be a better, quicker, cheaper way to resolve
disputes than by going through the long-winded court system. We explain
what its all about.
The Press
Some of the nice things people
have said about us over the past couple of years.
Us
Just in case you want to find out who is behind this site

considered for inclusion in the various "web-friendly" lawyers directories.
Webster
In December 2000 we got together with the Guide Dogs for
the Blind Association to sponsor a guide dog through his training. We picked

solicitor
formerly in private practice in the UK. We hope you find the site useful and easy to use. We
are constantly updating and adding information, so why not bookmark this
page and return if and when you need us, and don't forget to tell your friends

Web Stuff.............
New Tax Stuff (10/04/02)
Lawyers and Accountants aren't allowed to actually work together (yet!), so
in some cases they compete for the same kind of work. Tax is
based around legal statutes (albeit completely incomprehensible
ones!), so its both a legal and financial issue. Anyway we
thought you might like to have access to some useful tax
info, so we've put it on the site.
Site stats (20/03/02)
January was LAW on the WEB's biggest ever month for traffic.
24,777 unique users visited the site during the month. February was
slightly down (fewer days), but March has started out very busy again.
We also answered a record 170 Road Reckoner
enquiries in January, and we have now answered more than 1,000 motoring
questions.
As well as our new directory (you can test it out here), we are currently working on new sections
on mediation (now running); an online probate facility; employment docs for small
businesses; plus more general information in our Legal
Basics Section. Watch this webspace.
Issuing your claim
for money online (06/02/02)
We have just discovered the Court Services Money
Claim Online site, which looks interesting. If you have a credit
or debit card and want to sue someone for up to £100,000 you can do
it all online! We haven't got anyone to sue or we'd give it a go, but
if you use it please let us know how it goes.
sulfnbk.exe hoax
email (22/01/02)
There is a hoax virus email doing the rounds again, which may quite
innocently be passed on by a friend or colleague, which suggest you
should hunt out and delete the SULFNBK.exe
file.
If you receive a copy of
this message, you should ignore it. Do NOT pass it on as this is how
an email hoax spreads.
DO NOT PANIC AND DO NOT DELETE ANY FILES FROM YOUR COMPUTER.
There are several
versions of this message circulating but typically along the lines
of...
" I was sent a virus that is transmitted automatically via
address books. Because I have your address it means that you're likely
to have the virus. The virus is not detected by McAfee or Norton, and
lies dormant for 14 days before it then closes down your entire
system."
The email will also instruct you to delete SULFNBK.exe and to pass the
message along to everyone you know. SULFNBK.exe is a standard part of
the Windows operating system and SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED. For more
information about this hoax or for instructions on how to replace
SULFNBK.exe if you have already deleted it, click here.
Our New Directory
(22/01/02)
We are currently slaving away to update our directory, so that we
can bring you the best and most useable directory of law firms on the
internet. We are beta testing it now - ie trying to iron out all the
wrinkles - and loading tonnes of information about all the law firms
who can be bothered to get themselves on the Web. You
can try it out here. We hope to let you
loose with it properly in May.
