Road Reckoner

If you have been summonsed for a motoring offence then you can find out some more information about some of the more common offences in our motoring offences section.

If you would just like to know what the possible penalty may be for the offence(s) with which you have been charged, simply complete the form below as fully as you can, and we'll try and give you some sort of indication, using our experience and the guidelines set down for the Magistrates. We will try and cover any road traffic offence from driving without lights, to no insurance, drink driving and dangerous driving, but we cannot guarantee a response.

The information we give cannot be any more than that - an indication. The court will take into account all the facts, circumstances and consequences of any incident, and the people involved, which it hears about during the course of the proceedings. Some courts are more lenient than others and some harsher. But we hope the guidance may help you decide whether it is worth consulting a solicitor, fighting the prosecution, or paying for someone to represent you in court to minimise any sentence that may be imposed.

If you decide you do need to get some specialist legal advice and/or representation then check out our new fixed fee legal advice scheme for motorists, or contact us and we'll put you in touch with one of our panel of specialist road traffic solicitors. [Any law firms interested in joining the panel should contact us.]

You may also find it useful to check out the Highway Code, which you can do online here.
