Generic Employment Contract

This employment contract can be used for any of your employees to clearly establish the terms of their employment.

If you run your own business and are looking to hire additional staff, you may not be sure where to get started with an employment contract. Clearly when you need something legally watertight, an informal agreement or something written without knowledge of the law may not cut it.

With this generic employment contract template, you can set out a legally-binding document that will allow you to employ someone with the assurance that they know what is expected of them and what you offer in return. It’s simple to fill out and easy to understand, and you can download it right now.

Please note that when employing someone, you must also ensure that you are in compliance with the relevant employment laws, and that this document will not count as a legal contract if you breach them.

This generic employment contract contains customisable terms and conditions for:

  • the job description and employee's duties
  • wages and any additional benefits
  • working hours, including an overtime clause and provisions for working nights, weekends and public holidays
  • holiday entitlement and pay
  • workplace sickness policy and sick pay rights
  • the location of the workplace (with relocation clause)
  • the length of the contract
  • the commencement date for employment, and any required probationary period
  • rights relating to termination of the employee
  • details of any collective agreements in place
