AD02 Notification of Single Alternative Inspection Location (SAIL)

All companies are required to have an official registered office, at which legal proceedings and official documents can be served. Because the registered office is publicly available information, many smaller private companies which are run from the home of a director will give the address of their accountants or of a company formation agent in order to protect their privacy.

Companies are required to make their records available for inspection to Companies House and other government agencies, but where a company operates from a location other than its registered office this causes problems. Under the Companies Act 2006, every company is required to keep all of its official records and registers at either its registered office, or at another address which is referred to as the “single alternative inspection location” (SAIL). Companies House must be notified of the SAIL, but this information will not be included on the public register.

This form can be used to notify Companies House of the address of a company’s SAIL.

This form can be downloaded directly from the government website here.
