Letter of Claim for Generic Professional Negligence

If you’ve been let down by the conduct or advice of a professional – or someone who presented themselves to you as a professional – the repercussions can be devastating. We place our trust in professionals under the belief that they will do their best to assist us fairly and competently, and their failure can cause real problems.

That’s why Law on the Web offers this letter of claim (or letter before action) which can be sent to a professional who has provided a service to you, but who you believe has acted negligently and has caused you damage. Examples might include a lawyer or accountant who gave incorrect advice, or a builder who failed to act with reasonable skill when constructing an extension to your house.

Filling out this template letter will demonstrate to them that you are aware of your rights and oblige them to respond lest you initiate legal action against them.
