Q: One of my co-workers is currently being investigated by my employer. Am I obligated to do anything?
A: Your employer may ask you to give a statement or possibly participate in the investigation in some way. You will not have to do anything unless your employer asks you do so.
I am facing a potential redundancy situation but I would like to claim against my employer for breaching the terms of contract. I have worked there for 23 years and the contract includes 12 months notice and a bonus when faced with redundancy, yet my employer is trying to renegotiate the contract by reducing the salary, not giving notice and not paying the bonus. I was invited to a meeting yesterday afternoon and handed the notification of potential redundancy. The process is to be completed on Friday and at least four members of staff are to be affected. The meeting yesterday suggested that the salary would be reduced to a third. I have asked for further details about this before another meeting takes place. I believe that if I do not accept the reduction in salary then I will not get my notice period or bonus. This is not a discretionary right and the bonus is a substantial amount. What should I do about this situation?
