Q: I made the mistake of ordering contact lenses for my friend from the opticians that I work for. I have been asked to attend a disciplinary hearing on grounds of gross misconduct. What should I do?
A: You must attend the disciplinary hearing. Try and appeal on the basis that this is just a one-time mistake with little financial loss for your employer. It would be wise to research grounds for unfair dismissal and the appeals process in preparation for a worst case scenario.
I have been working for the same company for over 17 years. Earlier this month I resigned from my job on notice as I needed the money. I have now finished my employment. However, when I handed in my letter of resignation I requested that I wished to raise a grievance. My manager did not do anything about this and my manager said it was my duty to arrange the grievance meeting. I dispute this.
