Q: I had a car on hire purchase; however, it was repossessed after missed payments. At the time, I was trying to sell it, as I believed that the car was valued at more than the debt. The car has now been taken, along with personal items still in the car. What are my legal options?
A: You should read through the terms and conditions in the hire purchase agreement, as they may be entitled to repossess the car, despite the remaining debt. Contact a finance company to see if there is an option to come to an agreement regarding payment. Speak to the bailiff regarding personal items in the vehicle and their potential return.
I recently purchased a new car and the insurer told me that I would be the first owner. I received the car but the car documents show that I am the second registered keeper of the car. I feel I have been mis-sold the car and that the seller has committed a breach of contract, as it is clearly not the case that I am the first keeper of the car. I specifically wanted a new car and have a video recording of the verbal contract stating the seller said this.
