Q: I have got a contract with a phone company that has allowed them to increase their prices in line with the retail price index. Is this fair?
A: If you signed the contract knowingly and willingly then yes they can include this clause. If you still believe it to be unfair however, you may be able claim under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999. This seems unlikely though.
I recently purchased a car from a used car dealership. I have a 3 month warranty with the purchase. The car seemed fine when it was purchased but on the way home the power steering on the car went. I called the dealership when I got home and was told to bring it back. I took it back 4 days later after discovering 2 oil leaks and that the heater didn’t work properly. I wished to return the car but the garage wanted to repair it and refused to take it back. The seller said that after 4 days of purchase I cannot reject the car and have a refund because “he doesn’t do that”. I then stated it was my legal right as the vehicle was faulty and the seller just laughed and would not refund the money. Since then I have had minimal use of the car to keep the mileage down and to increase chances of rejection. I have been carrying out ongoing calls to take further action. What else must I do?
read moreI purchased a brand new car and noticed that fumes were being emitted into the vehicle. I took it to the garage but was told that it was nothing and the fumes would disappear after a while. This has not been the case and it got worse. The car has been in the garage for a few days now. I am not happy with this situation as I feel that the car is unsafe and I have told the company that I am looking to reject it. I have not heard back from the company yet as to whether they accept the rejection.
read moreI had a verbal contract with a contractor to do some work on my drive. I eventually asked him to leave and not to continue as the work was poor with wonky walls, poor fittings and a poor finish. The builder came out of his van and knocked the wall back down with a sledgehammer. I want to know what to do as the builder is saying that I owe him money. I have not paid the builder and he has removed all of his materials and dug out some of the drive but not enough. I do not want to pursue the builder but I am worried that he might begin legal proceedings against me. What should I do about this situation?
