Q: I wish to remove a public storm drain that is on my boundary line so I can put up some electronic gates to my house. It was installed before I purchased my property. Am I allowed to do this?
A: You may not be able to remove the drain if there is an easement benefitting your neighbours or the water board. However, you may have rights in the deeds or acquired rights due to the length of time it has been there. You should first contact the local authority and provide them with a copy of the deeds.
