Q: My neighbour wants me to cut down my tree as he says it is blocking his view and his right to light. I always top the tree off every year but he is now threatening legal action. Where do I stand in this situation?
A: Your neighbour has no right to view but his right to light may be difficult to prove depending on the age of the house or the deed. If your neighbour does take legal action, it is likely that the council will force you to top tree but not much else. I would recommend you write a letter to your neighbour and come to an understanding that satisfies you both.
There are lighting scaffolds on a rugby field next to my property which shine light into it. This has devalued my property and is interfering with my personal privacy due to the invasive nature of the light. The land is leased by the rugby club and I am unsure if they have planning permission. I contacted the local council and they said the scaffolding is necessary for the functioning of the club. I would like further advice on this matter.
