Q: An employee started with a back pain and it has now turned into depression. My business does not pay sick pay in the first year of depression and the employee is on a phased return to work. I also have a situation with the employee as she left the phone and was crying as she had a panic attack and this disrupted the department. The employee claims that the girls in the office are causing her stress by talking to her as she does not want people to talk to her. She said she wants a different job but she is not trained for it and I feel that she is not well enough to work. What should I do?
A: You could ask her for a doctor’s report and put her on medical suspension. You also do a risk assessment and invite the employee into an informal meeting.
