Q: An employee from another company that does work for our company will soon become a full-time employee for our company. Since he has worked for us through the other company previously, is there anything I need to do regarding a break between the employments?
A: Very unlikely unless it is company policy to do so. The contract that he should sign should make it clear that he has only become your employee after a certain date. If he was not an actual employee of your company (i.e. he never signed one of you employee contracts) he should not receive any privileges.
I neglected to invite an employee who was on maternity leave to the Christmas party. She has now lodged a grievance against the company, claiming discrimination. What should I do?

Two weeks ago my employee who is the key holder to my business and is required to open up in the morning did not turn up. I received a call from a friend at 10:20am to say the employee would not be in that day when the business is supposed to open at 9:15am. I later received a call that day from the employee’s husband saying that she had been to the doctor's and had been diagnosed with a chest infection. This was the case for the next 2 days. Each time I requested to speak to my employee personally I would have to communicate with her husband, who on the 4th day informed me that my employee would be off for another week. What action can I take?

I am a little sceptical about how a black eye can prevent her from working for this long. What should I do about this situation?
